Overview Of Role
Reporting to Discipline Manager / Team Lead or an Engineering Manager, the principal Engineer will have responsibility for a discipline area and/or planning and coordinating the technical expertise and services required to ensure successful delivery of high-quality engineering to meet commercial and technical needs. Individual is expected to improve the specific discipline work processes and be a technical governance for the Discipline. The scope will include studies and tenders as well as live projects.
Specific Key Responsibilities & Activities
Provide specialist skills, integrity and knowledge in key areas of project or discipline engineering, including design codes, legislative requirements and current good engineering practice.
- Understands clients' needs; identifies and addresses design parameters and problems; develops and implements solutions.
- Act as technical expert in all aspects of offshore geotechnical engineering design and installation.
- Manage interfaces within a project structure, including other disciplines, drawing office, document control, project management, client and suppliers.
- Participlate in the conceptual studies.
- Undertake geotechnical engineering calculations and design reports for subsea foundation design, pipeline initiation anchorages and pipeline/soil interaction.
- Understand how trenching equipment works and its uses and limitations.
- Check and approval of technical documentation, accepting personal responsibility for its adequacy.
- Understand and manage geotechnical risk.
- Ensures that specifications and norms related to the project are respected.
- Participates actively to engineers training and development.
- Proposes innovative solutions allowing cost & risks reduction.
- Evaluate, organize, and prioritize work for self and others.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Experience, Skills, and Knowledge:
- Professional qualifications – Degree qualified ideally in Civil/Structural Engineering with geotechnical expertise. (Demonstrable experience in a similar role will also be considered).
- Relevant engineering experience (10+ years) in all aspects of offshore geotechnical engineering design and installation.
- Awareness of marine classification and local legislation (Essential).
- Demonstrable ability to work within time/budget constraints.
- Presents self in a professional manner appropriate to the role.
- Produces work of presentable quality.
- Ability to prioritize and organize work.
- Use and reference appropriate Codes and Standards associated with geotechnical engineering in the offshore industry, i.e. ISO codes, DNV, API.
- Sound Knowledge of foundation FEA analysis software, i.e. PLAXIS (Essential) or similar software.
- Understand and manage geotechnical and geohazards risks.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain PE in 6 months.
