National Grid Ventures is hiring a Manager to serve as a “Senior Project Manager” seconded to New York Transco as part of our Propel NY Energy team in Brooklyn, NY
Our team is responsible for the development and delivery of transmission solutions that enable the grid of tomorrow/renewable future. In this seconded role to New York Transco, you will hold primary responsibility for all aspects of trenchless technology crossings – both onshore and subsea – in support of installing electric transmission cable for the Propel New York Energy Project.
Job Purpose
The candidate will oversee and manage the delivery and execution of major trenchless technology crossings along the Project route, including landfall HDD for the subsea cable system, crossing under the Whitestone Bridge, and multiple crossing under transit and rail infrastructure along the 90-mile route. Responsibilities include leading the Work Package team, coordinating project resources, assessing design compliance, and managing the project's budget and schedule. The role also involves identifying cost reduction initiatives, managing risks and issues, building the supply chain, implementing lessons learned, preparing tenders and contracts, providing inputs to other packages, managing construction permit requirements, ensuring quality, and representing the Package internally and externally. Finally, the job requires ensuring a smooth handover of work to Operations.
Key Accountabilities
- Accountable for overarching delivery of project execution plan within scope, schedule, and budget.
- Support, influence and participate in regular meetings with Engineering and Program Management (EPM) partner and mange key KPI
- Lead the Work Package team to deliver the scope, applying appropriate governance, controls and reporting to deliver against objectives and to inform the wider project about progress, issues, decisions and financial status
- Lead the coordination of multi-disciplinary resources and inputs to the Project (Eng, Dev, Construction, HSE, Procurement, Controls)
- Accountable for the assessment of related design, regulation compliance, manufacturing control, installation concept and commissioning
- Responsible for timely and accurate input and reporting to various executive level and project committees
- Identify, agree and implement all possible cost reduction initiatives to prepare the most efficient CAPEX and OPEX for the package considered for bid preparation and Final Design
- Planning, scheduling, budget control and effective change control to baselines
- Identification and management of package risks, issues and impacts for the wider project including effective mitigation management
- Build-up of local contractor supply list with Procurement (incl Local Content and preparation and execution of EOI (Expression Of Interest), RFI (Request For Information) and RFP (requests for proposals) to understand capabilities and capacity of the market
- Identify and implement lessons learned by interfacing with other projects, organizations and related bodies
- Accountable for overall, tender preparation, evaluation & contract negotiation
- Responsible for providing inputs to other packages during design phase to define the working interfaces
- Accountable to provide package inputs to Development team to ensure permits for construction and operational envelope are secured
- Accountable for managing quality in accordance with established systems
- Responsible for representing the Package internally and externally (stakeholder engagement, communications, briefing, decision making material and reporting)
- Responsible for ensuring smooth handover of work to Operations
Qualifications
- Minimum 8 – 15 years + experience managing large-scale projects, in the energy or utility sector, with proven record of accomplishment working with HDD
- Strong knowledge of construction, engineering and delivery methods for trenchless technology systems and associated regulations and standards .
- Demonstrated expertise in managing large-scale projects from initiation to completion, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Extensive experience in contract management, including procurement, subcontractor management, and vendor selection.
- In-depth understanding of project management methodologies, tools, and techniques.
- Proven expertise in planning, scheduling, budget control, and change management.
- Strong risk management skills, including identification, mitigation, and impact assessment for the wider project.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to lead and motivate a multi-disciplinary team.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, both internally and externally.
- Strong understanding of project governance, controls, and reporting to ensure successful delivery against objectives.
- Experience in coordinating and managing resources from various departments, including Engineering, Construction, HSE, Procurement, and Controls.
- Proficiency in fiscal management and business case development.

$176,000 - $207,00 a year
